Introduction to Psychology

Sigmeund FreudIntroduction to Psychology is a challenging, year long elective course that explores human behavior. In order for this class to be a success, students must be ready to participate in experiments, participate in class discussions and to be ready to explore their own behaviors.

Course Objectives:

Psychology is the systematic and scientific study of the behavior and mental processes of human beings and other animals. The goal of this course is to provide you with an understanding of not only the fundamental concepts and theories of psychology, but also to provide you with an understanding of the biological basis of behavior. In this course you are going to learn to devise research experiments and learn to critically analyze research results. You will wrestle with the ethical issues and enduring questions addressed by psychologists today. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to apply psychological principles to your own life.

Grading:

Tests and Projects - 35%
Quizzes - 20%
Class Participation - 20%
Homework - 25%

Classroom Rules and Expectations (in addition to the Student Handbook):

  • Respect yourself and others at all time.
  • Arrive to class on time, prepared and ready to participate.
  • All students will keep a binder or notebook for handouts and notes.
  • Late homework will not be accepted.
  • Any missed work is your responsibility to make-up.

Most importantly it is my expectation that all students work hard and have fun!
