Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA)
To help school health care providers prevent and control MRSA, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health has launched a community education campaign which offers detailed information, educational materials and resources on antibiotic resistance and MRSA, including MRSA prevention, diagnosis, and management in school settings and for school athletics.
How can everyone help to prevent staph infections?
- Regular handwashing with soap and hot water or the use of an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Keep cuts and scrapes clean and covered.
- Avoid contact with other people's wounds or bandages.
- Avoid sharing personal items like towels, washcloths, toothbrushes, and razors.
- Keep skin healthy, and avoid getting dry, cracked skin, especially during the winter.
- Contact your doctor if you have a skin infection that does not improve.
