Visual Art

Art experience is encouraged at Chelsea High School as an avenue for creative problem solving and expression often missing from academia. The visual arts are, however, not separated from other academic areas. We believe that art provides a natural way for students to understand the history and culture of civilizations and peoples. Because art is inherently narrative, it also enables students to actively contribute to contemporary culture by making artwork that expresses their personal experiences and stories. In this way, education in the visual arts aides in the development of both visual and verbal literacy. Additionally, students who are involved in the arts tend to do better academically and be more satisfied with their high school experience.
Chelsea High School offers a variety of opportunities for students to engage the visual arts from studio, art history, and portfolio preparation classes to the Art Club and opportunities to display work in various exhibitions.
