Mathematics Department
The Mathematics Department offers courses designed to provide the students with the tools to develop a strong background in mathematical skills and problem solving abilities. Students will be given the opportunities to develop critical thinking and analytical problem-solving techniques that can be applied to real-world problems and to other subject areas. Students will use mathematical vocabulary to communicate effectively while working collaboratively to solve real-world applications.
Students entering Chelsea High School will begin their mathematics careers with an entry-level course in Algebra 1. Those who are successful will follow with Geometry and Algebra 2. Students may continue studying mathematics by taking a variety of other offerings.
Entering students who have successfully completed Algebra 1 or Algebra 1 Honors in Grade 8 will be placed into Geometry in their freshman year followed by Algebra 2 in their sophomore year. This opens a variety of sequences for Honors and AP courses in their junior and senior years.
At Chelsea High School, we also offer support classes for students who find mathematics difficult. Students who are assigned a regular level Algebra 1 or Pre-Algebra class may also be assigned to a supplemental class, which will assist the students in developing necessary skills for success in mathematics courses and in the Grade 10 MCAS test.
Honors sections are offered and designed for the highly motivated students who are willing to work at an accelerated pace. Students who enroll in honors courses will most likely pursue AP mathematics courses.

- Replace your old single-glazed windows with double-glazing -- This requires a bit of upfront investment, but will halve the energy lost through windows and pay off in the long term. If you go for the best the market has to offer (wooden-framed double-glazed units with low-emission glass and filled with argon gas), you can even save more than 70% of the energy lost.

Teachers who volunteer for the Educational Proficiency Plans (EPP) team will review and update EPPs, as well as meet with their EPP students.
