Commerce & Technology Department

Chelsea High School's Technology and Commerce department courses seek to develop in students the ability and competencies that will enable them to both utilize current computer and educational technologies in pursuing their academic goals as well as empower them to access and understand how to use current future technologies creatively in pursuit of their goals in life. The courses are offered in five state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and an industry-level Video Production lab.

The Basic Computer Skills course familiarizes students with what is now the preeminent communication tool in our world of work and education. Our goal is to have students emerge from this course with a basic understanding and knowledge regarding the computer as a tool of technology (how it works, its components) and as a means of accessing and organizing information in pursing their education. Students use the MS Office suite of applications to work on projects involving tables, math, graphics, spreadsheets, word processing, and keyboarding, all based on real-life simulations. This course also gives students the skills necessary to pursue further and more demanding electives in the department.

Once students have taken the Basic course, they may pursue the other courses offered that allow them to explore three important technology paths in evidence in today's world of work: Networking and Web Design, Graphics, and Business and Commerce. In addition, students may participate in internships and school-based projects connected with certain courses. In addition, it is the intent of the technology and commerce course offerings to reinforce and emphasize all five other academic expectations across the curriculum.
